The Philadelphia Eagles have high hopes entering the upcoming season. They lost some talent, but they gained some premier players on the open market and trade block. Head coach Doug Pederson needs to build the best 53-man roster possible, considering their rivals in the Dallas Cowboys had an equally impressive offseason.

Here are three position battles to keep an eye on during Eagles training camp.

3. Wide Receiver

The Eagles' Super Bowl chances were significantly hindered last season due to the countless injuries at the receiver position. Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson were both placed on injured reserve in the final month of the season, but enter this summer as the top wideouts on the depth chart -- but there could be some competition for the two veterans. Philadelphia selected TCU's Jalen Reagor in the first round of the draft, and acquired speedy receiver Marquise Goodwin in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. It won't only have an effect on Jeffery and Jackson, but also Greg Ward Jr. and JJ Arcega-Whiteside. Keep an eye on those Eagles receivers this summer, because Carson Wentz needs the best support group available for the 2020 season.

2. Safety

One of the more shocking moves this offseason was the Eagles' decision to decline the option on the contract of veteran safety and defensive captain Malcolm Jenkins. After the transaction, the Eagles placed their confidence in cornerback Jalen Mills to effectively replace him, even though he struggled last season. However, Philadelphia brought in Will Parks via free agency, and drafted Clemson's K'Von Wallace. Considering Philadelphia's plans to retain the NFC Division title, you can expect the safety position to be prioritized in training camp. At this rate, if one of the players struggles, it's next man up. There's simply no room for error.

1. Right Guard

The Eagles have always boasted one of the better offensive lines in recent years. But earlier this month, starting right guard Brandon Brooks was ruled out for the 2020 season after tearing his Achilles tendon while training from home. Now, Philadelphia has to scramble to replace him. Fourth-round pick Jack Driscoll is the No. 2 right guard on the roster, with undrafted free agent Luke Juriga coming in right behind him. Unless the team makes a trade for New England Patriots left guard Joe Thuney and flips Isaac Seumalo to right guard, or if the team brings back Jason Peters, the battle will be small. However, it's of the utmost importance, considering the Eagles offense thrives on an effective run game.
